Epileptic seizures are classified into two main groups. Grand mal seizures are the larger, more dangerous ones where people lose consciousness, curl up in a writhing flexion or extension position and swallow their tongues. The petite mal seizures are smaller, may not last as long, the person may temporarily lose consciousness, and generally looks like they are quivering.

Seizures of both types are caused by pressure on the sphenoid and temporal portion of the skull which results in dehydration of the temporal portion of the brain. The more dehydrated that the brain becomes the more the nerves misfire. It is as if the brain is short circuiting. When the corpus colosum dehydrates then the left side of the brain cannot know what the right side of the brain is doing. They then cannot give dampening signals to each other and both sides begin to short circuit and misfire.
