Epileptic seizures are classified into two main groups. Grand mal seizures are the larger, more dangerous ones where people lose consciousness, curl up in a writhing flexion or extension position and swallow their tongues. The petite mal seizures are smaller, may not last as long, the person may temporarily lose consciousness, and generally looks like they are quivering.

Seizures of both types are caused by pressure on the sphenoid and temporal portion of the skull which results in dehydration of the temporal portion of the brain.
